The Canon has broken the barrier of 6 mega pixel camera with a good EOS-D60, in the process bridging gap in professional and prosumer digital cameras. The $2000 D60 boasts of excellent specifications of professional grade, like 6.3 mega pixel resolution, 35 mm single lens reflex body with facility of inter-changeability of lens. The D60 would appear attractive to professional photographers who use camera systems which use many strobes and lenses but are unable to afford top of the line cameras.
The D60 comes as all-black is manufactured on the changed Canon EOS camera body and can accommodate the entire EF series of canon/ compatible lenses. The CMOS image sensor of D60 has resolution of 3072 by 2048, 1536 by 1024, 1360 by 1536 and camera has capability of saving JPEG format at any of the three levels of compression as well as uncompressed RAW format.
The camera makes use of the focal plane shutter and supports the bulb mode and speeds starting from 30 seconds to 1/4000 seconds. The camera is capable of operating in shutter priority, full automatic, complete manual, aperture priority, program mode. Like many other SLRs, D60 comes with built in pop up flash and is also provided with hot shoe mounted on the top to accommodate an option Canon Speedlite flashes.
A standard PC connector is also provided for connection the studio strobe lights. The ISO sensivities have range starting from 100 to 1000 and needs to be selected by the user. The pentaprism eye level viewfinder is bright as well as sharp and comes with diopter which is focusable and can display entire information on shooting. All prosumer and high end features like sharpness, color adjustments, flash and saturation, focusing and metering options, many program modes, user specified default settings and video out and USB interfaces are provided.
The rechargeable lithium ion battery powers the camera and is easily compatible to IBM Microdrives and Type II CompactFlash cards. The quality of image is equivalent to many pro digital cameras. However RAW mode images require extra time to get transferred to computer. Our daylight shots came good with sharp as a tack and accuracy. Flash shots also came out good though highlights were slightly blown out.
The D60 is capable of saving RAW and JPEG formats and not the TIFF. Auto bracketing can be done upto three frames.
Canon D60 comes out as a real powerhouse digital camera which is capable of giving you excellent image quality and good versatility of front end professional models at a most affordable price.
